I. Purpose of the award: To recognize an individual who has enriched librarianship in Quebec and made a lasting contribution to the profession.

II. Criteria: The award will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated achievement in the following areas of competence: 1. Significant leadership role in the Quebec library community; 2. Exemplary career performance, serving as a model for colleagues in the library profession; 3. Contributions to professional and/or scholarly activities.

Integrating Information Search into the Workflow Process
Typically information search is treated as a simple isolated event – insert some keywords into a box and examine an array of snippets, and the job is considered finished. But the search for information is more complex than that and remains unsupported by existing technologies that focus primarilyon tuning search algorithms.

All great libraries depend on their support staff, working both behind the scenes and at the forefront to help libraries grow and serve their users. In our changing environment we need to ensure that we celebrate the skill of our support staff. Support staff are critical to any library’s success.

On Tuesday, November 3rd, the Dewey Divas are coming to town to share their picks.  Five of the Divas will be presenting a mix of adult, YA and kids suggestions.

They will be appearing at the Westmount Library from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

My name is Amanda Halfpenny and I am the new president of the student chapter of the ABQLA at McGill for 2009-2010. Last week marked the beginning of a new school year and the Library and Information Studies program at McGill is teeming with new arrivals who all seem nervous but optimistic about this new stage in their lives.

There is nothing quite as stimulating as a book to delve into the fascinating world of history, knowledge or fiction. As we celebrate Canadian Library Month, let us give ourselves over to this wonderful adventure.
