New National School Library Standards

The Canadian Library Association (CLA) is pleased to announce the launch of its latest publication, Leading Learning: Standards of Practice for School Library Learning Commons in Canada.

The new standards were created with input from committees across the country, including a Quebec committee under the Association pour la promotion des services documentaires scolaires (APSDS).

The publication is available free of charge at: clatoolbox.ca/casl/slic/llsop.html

This publication presents a model for the development and implementation of the school library as a library learning commons.

Learning commons are centres of teaching and learning, achieved through a combination of resources, technologies, collaborative strategies, and physical and virtual learning spaces that support all learners.

The publication includes a range of markers of progress, sets of implementation strategies, and rich examples of innovation and success.
