Walter Dean Myers at Lower Canada College

Monday, November 22, 2010, saw the auditorium at Lower Canada College filled with librarians, students, parents and many others, all gathered to hear the renowned author Walter Dean Myers speak.  This award-winning writer for young people was invited as part of the annual Speakers Series at Lower Canada College.  In conjunction with the school, the Youth and School Libraries Sections hosted the event that more than 20 ABQLA members attended.

Mr. Myers spoke at length about his personal history and background, which has inspired much of his writing, adding touching anecdotes about various people he has met over the years.  His humour was often in evidence, with the irreverent tone he gave to some of his stories. He was generous with his time for questions from the audience and afterwards attended the reception given for ABQLA members in the school library.  More interesting accounts of his adventures followed, including one about his many travels to buy and collect old photographs

Thanks to Maria Varvarikos and Lower Canada College for hosting the event and providing ABQLA members with the opportunity to attend such an enjoyable literary event.
