MINDSETS IN LIBRARIES: LESSONS FROM SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY
Thursday, November 24 | 1 - 2PM
Research in social psychology, the theory of Mindsets, has revealed that individuals' implicit beliefs about the nature of their abilities can influence how they respond to learning challenges, how they weather setbacks and how they react to feedback. This in turn can have profound consequences for their motivation and performance. There is also evidence to suggest that aspects of learning environments can affect individuals' mindsets. As hubs of rapid technological change and learning, 21st century librarians could fruitfully apply this knowledge to the benefit of our users, our colleagues and ourselves.
