Wikipedia #1Lib1Ref campaign - Coffee Hour

Date:
Tuesday, January 30, 2018 - 19:00
Location:
Jewish Public Library 5151 Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine Montréal, QC H3W 1M6

ABQLA is proud to be taking part in the Wikipedia #1Lib1Ref campaign, where librarians around the world are encouraged to provide a source to support (and therefore improve) any Wikipedia article.

The ABQLA will also be hosting a "coffee hour" event to guide librarians through the process.

To prepare for this event:

1. Register for a Wikipedia account.  Follow the instructions here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:CreateAccount&returnto=meta%3AThe_Wikipedia_Library%2F1Ref1Lib

  Why register ahead?

- There is a limit on the number of Wikipedia accounts that can be created from one location or IP address per day.

- This will speed up the activity on the day of our event.

2. Choose a citation that you would like to fix or add to Wikipedia.

- Use Citation Hunt to find a missing citation:  https://tools.wmflabs.org/citationhunt/en?id=ca351dfe&cat=all

- Caveat - some pages have restrictions on editing.  It might be a good idea to try to open the article you want to edit in the editor before you come, to see if it's restricted.  If it is, choose another citation.

3. Read about how to use the Visual Editor here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_referencing_with_VisualEditor/1

Bring your own device, and join us at 7pm on Tuesday 30th January 2018 at the Jewish Public Library 5151 Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine, Montréal, QC H3W 1M6.

The ABQLA Code of Conduct will be in effect during this event

If you plan on attending, please rsvp to abqla@abqla.qc.ca

If you would like to participate on your own, follow the instructions here:

Be sure to add the project hashtag #1Lib1Ref in the Wikipedia Edit Summary and tag the ABQLA when you post about it in social media.
