Considering that Splash Goes the Whale is aimed at young children (2 years and up), it was quite a bit bulkier than I expected physically, as well as linguistically. It is an 8”x11”x1.5” hardcover with board book pages. It is very text heavy with over 70 words on the first page. However, the story itself is fun with a nice rhyming scheme that is sure to pull in readers and listeners. The last spread has a fun pop-up image and a pull-tab to move the whale’s tail. The images are adorable but simplistic. This book would be great for read-alouds.
