After meeting a peacock, Steve the horse wonders what makes him exceptional. He and his best friend Bob wrack their brains but can’t seem to think of anything. Steve may be special, but he wants to be exceptional. Luckily for Steve, he finds an exceptionally beautiful gold horn in the woods. He spends all day running around and showing off his new look and chaos ensues. By the end of the story, Steve realizes that he is exceptionally unique, even without a fancy horn. Collier’s art style perfectly complements Steve’s goofy energy and big personality. Each page is incredibly dynamic with great attention to detail. The visual gag of Steve’s horn slowly falling out of place is sure to make young readers cackle. A silly and whimsical tale, Steve, A Pretty Exceptional Horse is ideal for fans of the Steve the Horse picture book adventures. This early graphic novel is sure to delight children 6-9 years old.
