Tired of letting the boys have all the fun, Freya decides that she too can slay dragons, rather than be a lovely princess waiting for a knight to save her. In turn, a dragon, tired of eating knights that are too crunchy and tough to eat, dreams of eating a sweet and tender girl. However, the dragon soon learns of its error when it finally encounters Freya. This adorably illustrated picture book can be used to teach young girls that they can also be tough, clever, and make the best knights and the wisest rulers of their kingdoms. The Dragon Slayer can be used as a good introduction to conversations with young children about not having to conform to gender roles and to strive to be who they want to be. It would be a great addition to any library for young children and would make for a fun story time read.
