The Ministry of Time is a quick-paced literary, science-fiction romance novel. The dry wit of the writing drew me in and kept me reading. Kaliane Bradley’s prose is elegant and descriptive. Through the lens of a self-proclaimed bureaucrat, we explore many what ifs: What if there was a time door? What if it was controlled by the British government? What if your new job was to be a roommate to a person taken out of their time and acclimatise them to modern times? This is the situation our main character finds herself in. I enjoyed the speculative science-fiction and the spy-action packed third act. This book has wide-appeal, even for lovers of history, as there are characters taken out of time. I would recommend this book to public libraries. I suspect there will be a high demand, as the BBC intends to make it into a limited series.
