The ABQLA Student Bursary: Investing in Your Future

Are you a student in the Quebec library and information studies community looking to grow your professional network and advance your studies? The ABQLA is delighted to offer the ABQLA Student Bursary, an annual award of $500 designed to support and celebrate the bright future of our student members.

Supporting the Next Generation of Professionals

This bursary is at the heart of our mission to support new talent in the Quebec library community. Whether you are just beginning your studies or are well on your way to becoming a library professional, we want to provide you with a positive experience that helps kickstart your career. We believe in the power of student participation to keep our association vibrant and forward-looking!

  • We are looking for applicants who are eager to contribute to the library and information sector and who are ready to engage with the ABQLA community. You are an ideal candidate if you:

    • Are Passionate About Growth: You can explain how this bursary will help you facilitate your studies or develop your professional path.

    • Get Involved: You have demonstrated your commitment to the field through volunteer work, extracurriculars, or library-related employment.

    • Value Community: You are excited about participating in ABQLA activities and helping us strengthen the library network in Quebec.

    • Appreciate Detail: You take pride in submitting a thoughtful, well-written application that showcases your unique journey.

    • Value: $500, presented each spring at the ABQLA Awards Ceremony.

    • Membership: Must be a current or new student member of ABQLA. Not a member yet? Join us here!

    • Education: Enrolled in a Master’s degree or DEC in a dedicated library/information studies program in Quebec. (Please note: This bursary is not open to PhD students).

    • Status: You must have completed at least one semester of your program by the application deadline.

    • Note: This is a one-time bursary per recipient.

  • We can’t wait to learn more about your goals and your work! Please submit your application package by the deadline, including:

    1. Completed Application Form

    2. Cover Letter: Letter of Intent

    3. Current CV: Highlighting your contributions to the sector.

    4. Proof of enrolment

    5. Optional: A letter of reference is welcome, but not required.

  • The ABQLA Bursary Committee evaluates applications based on the criteria above, with a focus on the enrichment opportunities the bursary provides for you and your career. To ensure fairness, supervisors or colleagues of applicants do not participate in the review of those specific files. Every applicant will be notified of the results via email.

  • The bursary recipient will be invited to:

    • Celebrate with Us: Attend the ABQLA Awards Ceremony to accept the bursary and offer a brief thank-you.

    • Inspire Others: Consent to having your photo and bio featured on the ABQLA website to inspire future applicants.

    • Share Your Story: Help us spread the good news and promote the bursary through your own professional and student networks!

    • Be heard in the Association: Write a short, engaging article for the ABQLA Bulletin.

Please Note: Applications for 2026 are now closed. The committee reserves the right not to grant a bursary in any given year, contingent upon funding and the application of a suitable candidate.
