Rich in visual detail and rhythmic prose, Look! Look! is a beautifully composed children’s book about a child uncovering an ancient well and the surrounding community that is drawn towards the exciting discovery. This story is inspired by the ancient wells of India. The narrative is light and poetic, artfully incorporated with the colourful illustrations. The bold, contrasting colours feature solid shapes and offer many details to linger on. While the story itself is short, the artwork invites discussions about the people, the environment, and for children to make their own discoveries within the pictures. This is a versatile children’s book. It is simple enough for very young children to understand and follow the art, and allows slightly older children to engage with the historical inspiration behind it. The detail in the illustrations can make for a fun game of I-Spy.
