When Worm decides it’s time to move on from his career as Head Librarian, he tries out various new jobs. He does not settle for work that doesn’t suit him, and does not get discouraged when others doubt him. While his unique skillset saves the day, the real MVP is Worm’s strong self-esteem.
This story includes humour, a positive message, and a secret worm fun fact! Themes include self-esteem, confidence, proactively trying new things, not settling, and recognizing that everyone can contribute meaningfully when given the chance. Readers will enjoy seeing Worm stand up for himself and use unconventional but effective methods to get things done. The author also gently and age-appropriately introduces young readers to the concept of workplace discrimination. The illustrations are as confident and lively as the protagonist, and feature diverse gender, ethnic, and religious representation.
With engaging illustrations, this picture book would make a great addition to public and school libraries.
